Human conditions #3: Secondhand grief

When someone you love loses someone they love, it is a unique human experience. Much like the grief itself in its uniqueness. Being sad for them, very sad, but you are not actually mourning, as it is not your loss. You want to be there for them, actually you want to take their pain away. But you can't. Nobody can. Eventually you learn that the only thing you can do is to stand there and do nothing, allowing grief to take its individual course, not crumble, stay strong, be awkward - just do not disappear. That's the only thing you can do.
